Adolescent Intensive Residential Treatment

The Arapahoe House Adolescent & Family Services prevention and treatment programs are designed to help adolescents who are experiencing problems due to their use of alcohol and/or drugs and mental health issues.  Some adolescents may abuse only alcohol, some only drugs, and some adolescents may abuse both.
Regardless of which substances are abused, the treatment provided at Arapahoe House is based on a belief that substance abuse is caused by a variety of factors and that a holistic approach to treatment that includes the family is essential to promote lifestyle changes in teenagers.

Results Achieved

To examine treatment effectiveness, we are currently collecting information at treatment entry and again at a six- and twelve-month follow-up interview. Extensive outcome data are not yet available. Information assessing the extent to which clients met program goals is collected at discharge. Preliminary analyses indicate that 62% of the adolescent clients met all or most of the treatment program goals, while 32% met some of these goals. These assessments will be compared to the client follow-up information to determine the relationship between meeting treatment goals and how well the client maintains a healthier lifestyle following discharge.
