Project
to Reduce Over-Utilization Of Detoxification (PROUD)
Program Overview The Program to Reduce Over-Utilization of Detoxification (PROUD) assists people who are using detoxification facilities to meet their needs for shelter and are not benefiting from traditional substance abuse services. The clients served by PROUD are primarily homeless individuals with severe substance abuse problems who are sporadically employed. These individuals are often seriously disabled by their substance abuse and accompanying mental or physical health problems. The program uses creative approaches to motivate people for treatment using a harm reduction model, and helps them with basic needs such as housing and access to medical care and linking them to other community resources. The goal of PROUD is to reduce their utilization of detoxification facilities, reduce their use of substances, and improve their housing and employment status. Program Services Case managers provide motivational counseling and help individuals with housing, treatment, employment and medical care, and any other need. Admission Criteria Males: Three or more admissions to detoxification within the previous twelve months. Females: One or more detox admissions to detoxification within the previous twelve months. Restrictions: Age 18 and above or emancipated. People Most Able to Benefit from this Program
