The Wright Center

Program Overview

The Wright Center is an innovative transitional housing program for homeless people who have completed intensive treatment for substance abuse problems and need assistance with housing and employment. The program emphasizes relapse prevention and the acquisition of employment through career skill development and job search. Upon completion, the overall goal is for clients to obtain permanent housing by acquiring stronger vocational and independent living skills as well as an increased recovery foundation and outside support network.

Program Services

Individual and group counseling, relapse prevention, vocational and career counseling, educational groups, financial management, positive social support and community activities, medication monitoring, and case management are provided in a residential setting.

Admission Criteria

Individuals must be age 18 or older, have no legal restrictions that would interfere with program placement, be employable for 32 hours per week, and free of substance use for 72 hours.

People Most Able to Benefit from this Program

  • Individuals who are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless;
  • Individuals who have an extensive substance abuse history and have received previous substance abuse treatment;
  • Individuals who have mental health problems in addition to substance abuse problems; and
  • Individuals in need of vocational/educational support.

Length of Stay

Individuals referred to the Wright Center are discharged upon locating permanent housing, having a stable source of income, and stability in recovery from substance abuse. Individuals may stay at the Wright Center for up to two years. However, most clients complete their treatment goals in six to nine months.
