Program Overview
Special Connections is a case management and treatment program for pregnant women who have a history of alcohol or other substance abuse. Goals of this program are to: reduce or stop the substance using behavior of the pregnant women during and after pregnancy; produce a healthy infant from the pregnancy; maintain the family unit; and promote a safe child rearing environment.
Program Services
Services include intensive case management to engage and coordinate the linkage to multiple systems appropriate to their needs, gender-specific substance abuse day and evening treatment groups, parenting groups and individual counseling in outpatient and residential settings. Residential treatment programs provide monitored visits and designated areas for children who are visitors. Family planning services have been made available on-site at the Aspen Center for Women program.
Criteria for Admission
Referred clients must be females who have substance abuse issues needing treatment and are pregnant.
Women Most Able to Benefit from this Program
- Pregnant women who are at risk of relapse;
- Women who are unable to maintain abstinence with less frequent treatment contact;
- Women who have minimal support for recovery and;
- Women who are experiencing barriers to treatment.
Expected Length of Stay
Length of services is determined on a case-by-case basis. Services may be provided for one month to two years.

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Each year Arapahoe House provides services to many persons with significant clinical needs. Arapahoe House has a priority on serving persons with the greatest clinical needs. Persons with certain individual circumstances are given service access priority. They include: pregnant women, injection drug users, women and their dependent children, and persons who are on involuntary commitment status.
