Recognizing the importance of safe and drug-free housing and employment in ensuring recovery from substance abuse, Arapahoe House provides assistance with housing and employment.
 
Program Services
Arapahoe House manages 71 Section 8 choice vouchers and 2 Shelter Plus Care Veterans Services vouchers that clients can redeem in the private housing market, paying only 30 percent of their income for rental housing.
 
The Transitional Housing Program sponsored by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Community Housing Services provides tenant-based rental assistance for 20 families who can be housed for two years while receiving intensive support services from agency staff.
 
Willow Street, Lora Lee Apartments and Presidential Arms Apartments offer permanent housing units for low to moderate income families a program that provides housing and related supportive services that engender a safe environment and teach community skills to families.
 
Homeownership program allows families who are receiving HUD Section 8 assistance, to use their vouchers towards the purchase of a home.
 
Homeless prevention and Rapid-Re-housing (HPRP) funds are provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for the City of Aurora and Jefferson County.  HPRP funds provide temporary financial assistance and housing relocation and stabilization services to families or individuals who are homeless or who would be homeless but for this assistance.
 
The Emergency Shelter Grant provides help for homeless persons in the city of Aurora and Adams County with: a substance abuse problem living on the streets; in emergency shelters; or in transitional housing allowing more independence and to seek permanent housing.
 
Admission Criteria
Low income clients who qualify under the HUD definition of homelessness and have a diagnosed Substance disorder. Family Transitional Housing program is restricted to families with dependent children that are in their custody.

 

People Most Able to Benefit from this Program

Help for homeless individuals or families with a history of substance disorders; and qualify under the low income federal guidelines.
 
Expected Length of Stay

Each program varies based on individual needs and grant guidelines.
